Nobody in the history of work has enjoyed filling in a timesheet, and the systems appear to have been designed by someone who knew that and wanted to make a point. The reminder lands on a Friday at four, which is the single worst hour of the week to ask anyone to reconstruct anything. The tool logs you out every ten minutes. The cost centre changed mid-month and half your hours no longer have anywhere to go. Which is why the honest excuse here is usually a process excuse, and process excuses are worth stating because someone can actually fix them. One project code and four projects is not a discipline problem. Neither is an approver who has been out for a fortnight while your entries bounce back unapproved. Say the specific thing and you may get the fifth code you've been requesting since June. The underlying maths deserves a mention too: filling in eight hours of a Tuesday takes about forty minutes of a Friday, because Tuesday is gone and you are now doing archaeology on your own calendar.
